My mother acquired a wonderful granola recipe from her friend, Diane Henry.
It’s been my favorite thing, like, forever. Here’s my version.

Maren’s Granola
4-5 cups old fashioned rolled oatmeal
3 cups crushed Wheaties (or similar wheat flake cereal)
2 cups Cheerios
1 cup wheat germ
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1/3 cup honey

Mix in a very large bowl and spread onto 2 jelly roll pans which have been covered in foil and sprayed with cooking spray or covered with baking mats. Bake at 300ºF (150ºC) for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally and switching the trays from upper to lower rack, till dry and brown. Store in airtight container. Makes roughly 14 cups.
